Ako: We are learners

We are bringing back the 'Mannequin Challenge'.
As part of our school wide Mana Atua focus for the week we have made a video.
Check us out- this is us showing how to ignore distractions, stay on task, teach each other and work out problems collaboratively.

Like our video below.
Let us know if you can think of any other ways to be a great learner.

People achieving excellence

In Ruma Toru we have been talking about discrimination. It all started with Anne Frank and a reading about the Moriori. Kayle asked about slavery and what we learned about shocked us. We didn't understand how people could be so unfair, so we decided we needed to do something to make sure people didn't make the same mistakes as the past.

But, what can we do? I hear you ask!

Well, we can demonstrate excellence and success, throughout a cross section of people so that everyone will begin to understand that ALL people can be great. No matter where they come from, what colour they are, how old they are, or how they grew up.

But what is excellence or success? We had a chat about what we consider to be success.

We did some research about different people we thought were excellent. The research was a bit tricky, but we got there in the end.

Karn, Mariko and Jack interviewed Karn's Nan, Tracey too!

Here is some of our work. You can come and see it close up in Ruma Toru's Gallery of Modern Works.

Kei te Ako te reo

Kia Ora Koutou,

Ruma Toru is trying hard to learn more te reo and use  ngā ra katoa.

We decided we would start with ngā kupu we use all the time.  Here is Stella's mean poster she designed with the words she decided she will start learning on it.
Ka mau te wehi Stella.

Even though I am the Kaiako in our akomanga, I am trying really hard to use te reo ngā ra katoa.
It's helping heaps, way better than just doing our lessons once a week.

So far te wiki, we have kupu we try and fit in a lot for the rā. This helps us keep our mahi tonu.
Our ngā Kupu o te Rā so far have been:
Kia Ora,
Ata Mārie,
Tātou tahi
Pānui.

If you are around, stop by and help us, or learn with us.
